Web-based virtual worlds: Vivaty

Filed under: General News, Tools — Bryan Alexander @ 08:23:32 am

Vivaty, the latest virtual worlds provider, just entered a public beta test period. Vivaty supports 3d room environments displayed within a browser. User avatars and 3d objects interact in these spaces, or "Scenes." AIM and Facebook are two exemplary partners in the beta.

The design revolves around these Scenes, which Vivaty hosts, and into which users enter when they wish to explore, or communicate with others. Users can customize content, including bringing in media from other, Web-based platforms.

Functionality is much simpler than that of Second Life or massively multiplayer online games. Correspondingly, it's quite easy to use.

Vivaty is available only for Internet Explorer on Windows at present.

Vivaty aims to make money on two fronts, in-world advertising and from supporting each financial transaction.
