370 Free to Air Satellite Channels in the Arab World

A new report, “Satellite TV in the Arab World 2007," by the Arab Advisors Group, reports that the number of free to air (FTA) satellite TV channels has grown by a massive 270% between January 2004 and August 2007. At that time the total number of FTA satellite channels reached had 370 on Arabsat, Nilesat and new entrant Noorsat. Arab Advisors Group research revealed that the highest number of channel types were the private sector general channels at 56, followed by 54 music channels and 38 government-owned general channels. 22.2% of those channels are in the United Arab Emirates.
